Westchester County Airport is a county-owned, public-use airport located in Westchester County, New York. The airport is situated within three miles (6 km) north-east of downtown White Plains in West Harrison, New York.

Sometimes Westchester County Airport is referred to as White Plains Airport since, in the past, it was identified by the Official Airline Guide (OAG). IATA code is - HPN. There is a controversy in the origin of this HPN code. Some people believe that the HPN code is derived from the name of the city of White Plains. But, it is commonly known that IATA codes normally do not start with ‘W,’ since those W signs are reserved for radio signals in the U.S. On the other hand, others think that the IATA code represents the first letter of the three neighboring communities, which are Harrison, Purchase, and North Castle. Brief Historical Background

Westchester County Airport was established in 1942, during World War II. The airport was used as a home to an Air National Guard unit, which aimed to protect New York City, Rye Lake, and the part of the city's water supply system.

The first scheduled airline flights at HPN Airport were done by American Airlines in late 1949s, from New York LaGuardia Airport to HPN and from HPN to Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
